ALICE
Alice is a hearing Dalmatian. She
came to live with us in the summer of the year 2000
when she was 8 weeks old. We have always loved
Dalmatians and were thrilled to finally own one.
She is a Roadcoach Dalmatian, and
her sister is now a Champion. Alice has a patch over
her left eye and her right ear and is therefore not a
show dog. It is interesting to note that patched
Dalmatians have been shown to have significantly lower deafness
rates, however in the past many breeders
euthanized patched puppies at birth, rather like they
now euthanize deaf puppies. Perhaps in the future
deaf puppies will also be spared.
Alice has a superb temperament and is a typical
Dalmatian: a talented thief, full of energy and fun,
always acting the clown, and always looking for same
way to get attention. She is very intelligent and has
a great need for affection, often seeking human body
contact. She likes nothing better than curling up on
someone's lap.
She
also loves running and playing on the long stretches
of sandy beaches we are lucky enough to live near. If
she can't run on the beach she enjoys having a good
run round the garden with Humphrey or playing with
her toys. She enjoys Obedience and Agility
training and is a registered PAT dog.
She is very good with
our two cats and treats them like her babies and
mothers them at every opportunity.
Alice often acts as Humphrey's ears, and seeks him
out if she thinks he is missing something. By
watching Alice's reactions Humphrey always manages to
be at the door first when we come home!
